To receive automatic invitations for the lecture series, you are cordially invited to send a request to grotiuscentre@campusdenhaag.nl The Lecture Series, introduced in 2006, is named after Professor John Dugard, former Professor of International Law of Leiden University, to honor his distinguished tenure in the Leiden faculty of Law. The purpose of the Lecture Series is to invite expert international law scholars and practitioners to present public lectures on important disciplinary developments. Post- and under-graduate students, Staff of Leiden University, and colleagues from international institutions in The Hague form the audience of such lectures. Lectures take place in Leiden (Faculty of Law) or in the premises of the Grotius Center for International Legal Studies in The Hague. ![]() Christopher John Dugard, of South African nationality, is Professor Emeritus at the University of the Witwatersrand, and Honorary Professor at the University of Pretoria and the University of West Cape, and was until recently Professor of Public International Law at Leiden University. He has also acted as Director of the Lauterpacht Research Centre for International Law at the University of Cambridge. In tandem with his outstanding academic achievements, Mr. Dugard has greatly contributed to the work of a number of international fora in the field of international law and human rights. Among many functions and offices, he is a member of the Institut de droit international, a member of the International Law Commission and its Special Rapporteur on Diplomatic Protection. He is also Special Rapporteur of the United Nations Human Rights Council. Mr. Dugard has also served as judge ad hoc before the International Court of Justice and has published more than 100 books and articles in areas such as human rights, diplomatic protection, international criminal law, legal education, legal theory, apartheid, the Occupied Palestinian Territories and more. |
